"Table Decorations"...for the holidays

Love decorating tables, especially during the holidays...since I am Traditional, I find it so convenient to be able to use things I love, or have collected for a long time.  Most of the items were purchase long ago at consignment stores or were purchase at trade show since I am in the business of designing.  Traveling, is another way for me to purchase unique items.  I tend to use items, I don't put them away with the idea of what if...
A tip, White china is always a great idea, because it can be used during the entire year...

"Pillow Talk"...holiday

In love with this elegant Christmas wreath pillow.  The amount of work on the hand stitching and materials is incredible.  The fabric is 100 % Cotton with a small baby self welt, but the additional decorations is what pops out!

"Silver and Burgundy"...

Time to take out all the Silver chinaware and mugs...lets decorate the table for the upcoming formal dinner with beautiful strong colors. Make the centerpiece with fresh fruits like red delicious apples and grapes.  Don't have to use holiday plates, utilizing a simple white colored china will be sufficient to get the right look.  If you don't have silver items, check a local consignment store or the market...

"Pillow Talk"...burlap

My fascination for textiles is very complex...I adore utilizing fabrics which someone normally wouldn't use.  These burlap pillows are constructed of a natural burlap fiber but very soft to the touch.  The stamped monogramming and the meaning is just beautiful, as well as the shape!

"Pop Art"...

Some times the most amazing items can be used as artwork...a good example is the big M letter in this image.  So, how do we get unique items like that?  Very simple, look into salvage places, store and business that are going out of business.  Also, you can make your own with plexi glass...uh mm, that's a project!

Happy Monday!

"Pillow Talk"...

A Simple quilted holiday berries pillow is all you need to decorate and a tree!  This type of quilting is very intricate and at the same time elegant.  It makes the pillow softer and gives body, plus since fabric has so many layers, it's more durable.  Pillow would look stunning against a slip covered sofa!

"New Metal Floor Lamp:

In love with above floor lamp, constructed completely of metal...one of the new trends about this last market was introducing or combining metal work to furniture.  Chandeliers made out of wood and metal, with a rustic shabby chic look where among other items which caught my eye.  There were lots of washed woods, whether oaks or pine, the distressed look is strong and defined.  Mixed with matte silver and golds, its casual/elegant style is a clash of the old and the new!

"Decorating For The Holidays"...

Love decorating for the holidays...from chair covers to small topiary, it's all fun and simple to do.  This red, white and black happens to be cute and very shabby.  Colors can definitely change according to our taste and style.  Think of the same set up but in pink and lime OR spa blue and brown...what matters is the continuity of tones.

"Pillow Talk"...fringes & trims

What a different it makes adding a layer of fringe or trim to a pillow or even a piece of furniture.  Combining the right textiles, patterns and colors is also important, as well as scale.  Don't be afraid to mix them and start from large to the smallest ones in front!

Happy Friday!

It's not too early to start thinking about the holidays...gifts...dinner plans...etc.  I was taking to a friend yesterday and she said her best friend is already decorating the house with a new Missoni inspired tree.  I said to my friend, but what about thanksgiving...no up!  Let us have fun and be inspired by design!

"Navy"...the new comeback

Navy is one of my favorite colors lately...When proposing an idea or inspiration to a client, its funny but sometimes they note if its a nautical look.  For the contrary, I always remark.  Navy is a color which pretty much goes with almost all tones.  Navy looks traditional and rich, or clean and modern.  Don't be afraid to paint even just one wall or be a dare devil and get a nice big comfy sofa...or may be just a beautiful lidded jar!

Have a nice beginning of the week...

"Fall Colors"...

This Fall, one of the color I see the most on walls is chocolate brown.  A low luster/flat brown looks so elegant and organic.  Mixed with vintage items and definitely fall orange colors will give you a trendy style!

"Pillow Talk"...

Wow...there's something about this pillow I love.  The texture of this material feels like felt, I couldn't come up with its contents but I'm sure is very durable.  The time it took to cut each  layer of fabrics to compose this rose design is pure art.  One of my favorite finds indeed!

"Color Trends"...green

Modern to Traditional, green is a color that I call hope.  With its refreshing tones, it can inspire any type of design.  Another thing I notice at the market is that the tones of green are also on furnishings, such as the cocktail table in image.  One of my favorite is the Toile's textiles, they are still shown which is a good indication that consumers still love it...

"A Dream French House"...

Sorry for the lack of postings, been a bit under the weather...anyways, back to high point findings.  These cute painted French chairs I thought were adorable.  It has all of the bright trendy colors and they are super tailored.  Shown in a couple of finishes helps show the textile's beauty.

"HP Market Finds"...

A look I fell in love with is a rustic French Style mixed with modern lighting and silver or matte gold.  The combination is so casual but at the same time, so timeless.  Washed Oak and Driftwood  furniture pieces and accessories were display in beautiful textiles, very muted and conservative.

"High Point 2011"...trends

Lots of fresh new ideas, where found at the furniture show this time.  The addition of new small stools, caught me eye.  Stools can be incorporated into any design style.  They are small and come in so many shapes and sizes.  They serve as footstools or coffee tables as well as sitting.  One of the new trends is the comeback of the color Gold.  I know what you are thinking 80's but in reality, it's beautiful.  The tone is soft and mixed with white washed oak, looks fantastic.  The first image was taken for fun.  We can see so many different elements from Lucite to fir, gracefully resting in a zigzag area rug.  Lots of geometric shapes and color-color-color!

"Pillow Talk"...highpoint market trends

So nice to be able to write on this blog a bit more!  Highpoint Market offered lots of ideas and color trends.  The most important element is that transitional look or design style is the latest according to designers and manufacturing companies.  For a few weeks, I will post pillows that scream beauty and fun.  Above is the perfect example of small accent pillows.  The first one to the right has a stamped bird or painted look.  Birds were seen everywhere, on upholstery to framed prints.  The color palette is soft but very appealing to buyers.  I can tell the quality and workmanship of all of the above!

"Designing For The Season"...

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons of the year...and so are these colors.  I love everything about this room, from the chocolate brown small print ottoman to the club chair with its large floral pattern.  The color palette is a warm blue/turquoise that is so trendy.  Introducing the large horizontal stripes on the drapes, helps balance all of the textiles.  A natural sea grass area rug, anchors the room and makes it come alive!

"Folk Art Pumpkin"...

I thought this simple way of decorating a pumpkin was just adorable.  A flair of Folk Art, without any carving {no mess} and the doilies are easy to find.  Any local supermarket or craft store has these paper coaster, it just needs to be cut and glue to pumpkin.  Doilies can be painted in black to add more drama too!

happy Monday...

"Pillow Talk"...buttons

These custom made Linen pillows are so cute.  The idea is to hand sew each mother of pearl button and extend the threat from one button to the other, creating a basket weave pattern.  The color scheme can be change as well as the materials...

"Fall Colors For Lampshades"...

"Before and After"...

There are simple solutions when it comes to redesigning a room.  Many times we may end up buying new furniture or re-upholstering classic pieces such as the slip on chairs with a coral pattern.  The first step would be to paint the entire room and that way the architectural features will pop out.  Instead of a window seat, a wall to wall storage unit was built, allowing more room for storage.  Round tables always look better in a room than any other size, specially when it comes to a sitting area.  Throw a zebra rug and recycle some tables, new accessories in the fireplace and voila!

"Pillow Talk"...message

Every Friday {whenever possible}, I like to write a little segment about pillows and how to utilize fabrics and other textiles in a new way.  I also enjoy seeing how creative we can be by playing with colors and styles.  These cute pillows, I love because they send a message.  They are constructed of an elegant soft silk and the focal point obviously is the monogram silk ribbon w/message.

Happy Friday...

"MBR Neutrals"...

I adore master bedrooms that are designed with neutral colors...basically I love this one done almost all in white.  The clean lines of the black furniture brings out all the layers of textiles on the bed and window treatments.  I really don't mind at all sleeping here.  Also, love the sitting area by the foot of the bed.  Why not utilized the space and make it into a conversation area. In this space, it works!

Happy middle of the week...
